In another life, I was a photographer. This is me, on a shoot for T Magazine, in the late Madeline Gins' studio.
Hi there, I'm Caroline.
I am a machine learning designer/user researcher, artist, and digital anthropologist obsessed with language, culture and images.
For the past few years, I have been focusing on the intersections of natural language processing, artificial intelligence, abuse, and online harassment. I've spent the past two years studying online harassment and political activism on social media. Currently I am a BuzzFeed/Eyebeam Open Labs fellow where I am prototyping a machine learning system to mitigate online harassment. Prior to that I worked at IBM Watson as a design researcher. In another life, I was a photojournalist. Sometimes, I make experimental video games and art.
I was born in New Orleans and I am currently based in Brooklyn (and occasionally, I live in airports). I hold a masters from NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program where I focused on HCI, storytelling, and social media theory, and I have a BFA in Photography and Imaging with a focus in digital media and culture from NYU. Get at me sometime, I love to meet new people.
